2022 Research Grant

The Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee was pleased to award the 10th annual “KAT-Walk & Karo-5K Research Grant for 2022” to Dr. Madeleine Puisssant, Emergency Medicine Resident at Maine Medical Center at the Brain Aneurysm Awareness event on September 17, 2022 in Portland, Maine.

With this $5,000 grant, Dr. Puissant and other researchers will be reviewing the aneurysm diagnoses at MMC in the past 5 years, characterize whether it was symptomatic or an incidental asymptomatic finding, what follow-up was provided, and the outcome of the patients.

They will also prepare a standardize guideline for medical providers and create a patient information brochure detailing an explanation of their diagnosis, next steps, and supportive resources for them and their families.

Over the past 14 years, with your support, the Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee has awarded over $110,000 to research projects conducted in both basic science and clinical applications. To date, some exciting work has been produced in finding better ways to tret and manage Brain Aneurysms, SAH, vasospasm, and to understand the mechanism for aneurysm growth.

Thank you to everyone who donates and assists our efforts to increase Brain Aneurysm Awareness, Education, Funding of Research, and general support of the Brain Aneurysm community in Maine and northern New England.
